Cary Grant smiled at me from my laptop screen. Grinning at me from maybe “Indiscreet” or “Holiday,” “The Awful Truth” or “My Favorite Wife.” Whatever the film, Grant’s rakish and charming smile could only do so much. As the pandemic smashed movie after movie into an unhealthy binge, as I subscribed to more and more streaming services, my pining for the Brattle Theatre only grew more acute.
