Founded in 1966, Cambridge School Volunteers (CSV) is the private, non-profit organization that recruits, trains, places and supports volunteers in the Cambridge Public School system. Last year, more than 1000 volunteer worked in the schools, and included business men and women, retirees, college and university students and faculty, and other individuals from Cambridge and surrounding communities. Volunteers serve in Kindergarten through grade 12 of the Cambridge Public Schools as one-on-one tutors, classroom and library aides, homework helpers, speakers and special project leaders.

In addition to needing volunteers at all levels, CSV is currently seeking adult reading and mathematics partners for some of the system’s youngest students. The Intergenerational Literacy Program (ILP) and Intergenerational Math Program (IMP) are unique in that they provide special intervention in both reading and mathematics literacy in the early grades.

For those looking for a different volunteer experience, CSV also needs tutors to:

• work with high school students in almost all subjects
• help in our Drop-In Math center
• prepare students for MCAS testing
• help with college essay writing

No teaching experience is required to become a CSV volunteer. You must commit to one to two hours per week, for at least one semester, during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
